Critical Care Reviews Newsletter

Dr Fernando Zampieri (São Paulo) during the BaSICS trial results presentation livestream

Welcome to the 505th Critical Care Reviews Newsletter, bringing you the best critical care research and open access articles from across the medical literature for the week of August 9th to 15th. I'm a week behind at present, but hope to catch up in the next day or two.

The highlights of this week's edition are the publication of the two arms of the BaSICS randomised controlled trial, comparing plasmalyte with 0.9% saline in critically ill patients & also slower vs faster intravenous fluid bolus rates. We were fortunate to have the honour of hosting the results presentation; the edited videos are now available on the CCR website. We also released the follow up podcast to the TTM2 results livestream, where the chief investigator Niklas Nielsen answered many of the questions posted on the livestream chat function and also on Twitter.

If you only have time to read one review article this week, try this one on weaning temporary mechanical circulatory support.
